What's going on Diamonds and my Diamond Status Gents!?! I know the increase of women owning there own business, and minorities in business have gone up more then 8%. This is largely due to feeling of the black tax (meaning I have to do more then other professionals), the going above and beyond factor. Also, feeling like our voice in the room doesn't matter. Or if you assert yourself you must be angry.
I'm here to tell you diversity training is not helping with how others cope with minorities in a room. Being sometimes the only black woman or black in management at some places. I have found this to be true. Where if I say or do something she must be mad. She just can't be passionate about it, she must be mad. I've found more woman of other races feel this as well. But, when you raise your voice or yell I'm here for it sis. I don't call you angry. Or belittle your opinion.
So here we are realizing, maybe we need to put our skin in the game. No we are not mad and or angry, no we are not attacking you. And hell no we won't be quite. We are here get use to us. We are very excepting of your passion. We are very excepting of your diversity. So guess what research us. Get to know us and except we do everything 110%. That includes how we speak up as well.
So how do you get over feeling like you don't matter. Start our own companies, hire our own and except the beauty we bring to the table. Also, hire other minorities that go through the same pit falls. Women being in the forefront will have to be accepted. So combat ignorance with positive vibes only. You are the master of your destiny and legacy. With the current climate of #MeTOO with being undervalued and under paid. Even, being sexually harassed or marketed as sex objects. We are no longer tolerating it.
You must use your skin as a positive. Your diversity is needed in the room. Your gender is needed in the room. Woman and blacks, Asians, Latinos and any other minority matters. Trust you are consumer as well so you know what your looking for. Let's be EMPOWERED!
